Overview

How can a digital closet app optimize your lifestyle?

As we move into the post-COVID era, time appears to be slipping away from us. Living in urban areas can be overwhelming due to the struggle to balance social and work obligations. Unfortunately, amidst the hustle and bustle, we often forget to present ourselves as we desire.

Problem

No digital closet app means disorganized wardrobe management. Finding clothes, tracking wardrobe, selecting outfits, and caring for clothes become difficult. It reduces efficiency and enjoyment of wardrobe management.

Solution

A digital closet app helps manage your wardrobe efficiently. It organizes clothes, avoids forgetfulness, saves time, prevents duplicate purchases, eases seasonal transitions, and reduces packing stress. It tracks clothing usage, facilitates maintenance, and enables virtual shopping. It simplifies wardrobe management and reduces stress.

Background

Background

Let's review why we need a digital closet!

Opening your closet doors can be daunting, anticipating the chaotic mess that lies ahead and the subsequent rise in stress levels. The statistics about clothes organization are shocking. However, being informed can help us make better choices.

According to a study conducted by the Soap and Detergent Association:

• 57% of women believe that a closet that’s organized makes it easier and quicker to find what they need

• 1 in 9 population were late for work because they were unable to find some part of their outfit to wear

• 47% struggle to pick up their outfit before they go to work

Clutter in your closet can be overwhelming. Studies show that 91% of people feel this way, with 88% wanting less clutter. It causes stress and anxiety, with 57% feeling stressed and 42% anxious. However, organizing your closet can greatly improve your mental well-being.

User Interviews

User Interviews

I had the opportunity to interview four individuals to gain insight into their wardrobe selection and organization habits

To gain a better understanding of their fashion and wardrobe preferences, I conducted interviews with digital natives aged between 18 to 30. During these interviews, I sought to learn about their needs, motivations, and frustrations with their current fashion choices. The individuals I spoke with expressed a desire to improve their fashion sense and were in search of a way to organize their closet effectively.

Research Objective

Find out what frustrates people most about clothing trend and their shopping habits

  • Understand what motivates people to stay informed, and how motivated they are to do so

  • Understand how people store their clothes

  • Discover what people about their style

  • Understand people's perceived level of individual impact on their representation

Finding & Analysis

People I interviewed struggle to prioritize their appearance and usually put on whatever they can find.

Insights & Affinity Map

I've selected the most important topics and put them on separate sticky notes. I then arranged them according to theme and resemblance. This has led to the emergence of several themes, which I have noted.

Persona

I created a single persona by summarizing the key motivations, goals, and frustrations to present to the client.

  • People tend to purchase various types of clothing items with the change of every season

  • The clothes people wear tend to have an impact on their mood

  • People often wear whatever they find in their closet, but those who take the time to put together an outfit tend to feel better and more confident throughout the day

  • Fashion trends impact user preferences and seasonal clothing recommendation

  • Many individuals desire the ability to plan their attire before selecting their clothes

Sometimes I get so into it that if my clothes dont match I lose track of time. And so 10 minutes turn into 20 minutes just looking for clothes.

- Research Participant

I love to dress up in the morning - so many clothes and so hard to choose! I need to look effortless but professional.

Future Roadmap

Mobile App & Smartphone Attachment for Clothes Inventory

  • Design and prototype screens showing the concept of a mobile app combined with a smartphone attachment for clothes

  • Created and developed a set of screen designs that demonstrate the usage of a mobile application in tandem with a digital inventory attachment for smartphones

Design &
Ideation

Would a digitized wardrobe help you feel more confident and expressive in your personal style?

In the post-COVID era, with the rise of remote work and casual attire, we may find ourselves neglecting our personal style. Digitizing our wardrobes can simplify getting dressed, save time, and alleviate the stress of choosing outfits.

Navigation Map

I've created a navigation map for the app that outlines four pages: home, outfits, add/upload outfits, and settings. The home screen displays the user's profile and recent activity. Outfits page lets the user browse and save outfit options. In the add/upload outfits page, the user can upload their own outfits. The settings page allows the user to customize their app experience.

User Flow

After finalizing the content organization, I started planning the user interface for achieving some crucial objectives, such as creating an account, uploading item pictures, and completing the storage process. I added some decision points where the users could opt-out of additional information or skip a step.

Sketches & Wireframes

Here are some sketches that were created to explore the potential designs for some of the pages

Branding

Through my branding, I aimed to create a friendly and inviting experience while highlighting sustainability in a way that is both fresh and appealing.

Through my branding, I aimed to create a friendly and inviting experience while highlighting sustainability in a way that is both fresh and appealing.

I chose the green theme for this project because it can serve as a powerful branding tool, showcasing the brand's commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. It can also create a positive atmosphere for users by evoking feelings of freshness, vitality, and harmony. Green is a symbol of renewal, growth, and progress, suggesting that positive change is possible. This can help the app stand out from competitors and attract eco-conscious consumers, enhancing the user experience, and fostering a strong emotional connection. Consistent branding strengthens brand identity, making it easier for users to recognize and remember the brand.

High-Fidelity Prototype

The first round of high-fidelity screens.

Usability Test

I tested four users' ability to complete these task flows in the prototype.

During the in-person usability tests, I evaluated the prototype with participants who were interested in organizing their closets. To determine the success of the prototype, I measured the number of user errors and the reported ease of navigation while completing tasks. Additionally, I assessed how effectively the app addressed users' pain points, motivations, and goals.

Test Insights

Users were able to complete the process without any errors or interruptions, indicating that it was user-friendly. However, they provided feedback regarding the content displayed on the screens and the usefulness of some features and icons.

Revisions

To improve the user experience, I have implemented a tutorial that appears just before the home page when the user starts using the app. The tutorial will provide in-depth information about important app functions that were previously unclear. For example, the plus sign icon indicates the option to add clothing items, while the icon button has a specific meaning that will be explained in the tutorial.

Stay tuned to witness I-wear transforming into an effortless tool

For my next step, I plan to conduct another round of usability testing to determine if the latest updates to the app are user-friendly. Additionally, I am exploring the possibility of adding a new feature that allows users to upload their digital shopping carts or order lists to add items virtually. Excited to continue working on this passion project with social impact potential.
